Course for beginners

This course is intended for those who have no previous experience with Argentine tango or for those who wish to improve or repeat the basic and characteristic principles of tango.

During this course for beginners you will learn the principles of leading and following, the correct posture, the tango embrace, the movements of the simple walk, changes of direction, and the turns, which are the basics for the other more complicated figures and variations. The goal is not to teach you some steps/routines/choreographies but to be able to dance, i.e. to move fluently across the dance floor with your partner respecting other couples on the dance floor and with the music, especially. In the beginnings we will concentrate on the correct posture, the body axis, the embrace, the walk, the communication between the man and the woman, and also the rythm and musicality. Later on we shall practise the improvisation discovering many combinations of basic movements, dancing the learned figures in different sequences, which is very important for the social dancing on a milonga.

To dance tango means, among others, to be able to dance what we want or feel in that moment, that is to be able to lead the woman to the variation we intend to dance (men) and to be able to feel and understand what the man intends to dance (women), and to dance it together.

The course for beginners lasts 12-13 weeks, which is an optimal time to become familiar with the basic principals of this dance. After 2 or 3 months we recommend to visit some milonga. Certain experience to enjoy your dance you can gain only by dancing on milongas. To enjoy the dance together in the closed embrace and with the music is what makes the tango.

Argentine tango is a social dance, the goal is not to complete a tango course or to know hundreds of figures. People learn tango to go to the milonga and enjoy themselves, to relax, to recharge, to meet new people, etc.

 Etceteras:

1. The participation in the couple is not necessary, however, tango is a couple dance. During the classes the couples are changed from time to time.

2. If you miss a class, you can compensate for it in another course. If you have payed for the whole course and you can not attend some of the classes, you have the possibility to compensate for the missed classes on any other parallel course but not later then your course is finished.

Lower intermediate course

This course is intended for those who already have some basics, who do not feel like total beginners but still do not feel self-confident on a milonga, who have had a longer break and wish to come back, and so on. It concurs partially the course for the beginners but it is suitable for those who already have some previous experience with other styles of dance.

We shall repeat the basic principles and deepen the technical capabilities on more advanced figures that will extend your repertory and improve your improvization skills on the milonga. We shall concentrate on the rythm and musicality. Also the basics of the vals and the milonga will be explained.

The course lasts 10 weeks. Each lesson consist of 90 minutes of teaching and 30 minutes of práctica–individual dancing with the possibility of a discussion with the attending lecturer.

Intermediate course

These classes are intended for those who are familiar with and want to improve in the basic principles of Argentine tango and also to learn more figures.

We will practise the leading and following in different figures, the musicality in tango, and also the two other dances typical for the milonga - vals and milonga.

The lessons are delivered as blocks of 2-4 weeks dedicated to a certain topic (for example milonga, giros in vals, sacadas in tango, volcadas, and so on) announced in the news (see caminito.cz/news). There is a lot of space for questions and discussion on personal difficulties in dancing.

Followers Technique

A workshop for all dancers who want to improve their movement technique and communication within the couple - sensitivity for following in different styles of tango, typical movements and figures for followers, adornments and other issues we have no time to discuss very deeply in regular tango classes. The level of your dancing skills is not important, you can attend the whole spring seminar or choose any of the classes individually.

The first part of each class will be focused on improving the body mobility, balance and concentration, using special exercises including yoga and breathing techniques. In the second part of the class we will concentrate on topics specific to followers: communication and harmony in the couple (changing of roles), walking, rhythm, ochos, giros, boleos, free leg, adornments...

What to wear: anything comfortable (clothes you can move freely in, we might be sitting on the floor too), dancing shoes, socks for barefoot exercises.

Compensation for unattended classes of prepayed courses

If you have payed for the whole course and you can not attend some of the classes, you have the possibility to compensate for the missed classes on any other parallel course but not later then your course is finished.

And what is next after finishing a course?

We shall be very glad, of course, if you continue with us in some other tango course but more important is to keep practising what you have already learned. on practicas and milongas. Do not underestimate dancing on milongas because that is The Place to learn. Here you can discover things that no teacher can teach you: to dance according to your will and mood. You start to find out which figures you like, what is actually your taste in tango (as there are many styles), and you gradually develop your own style. The technique and figures you can practise on the practicas; on the milongas you only enjoy the dance.
