I started dancing when I was sixteen – about the time when people here start attending dancing lessons. I tried my luck at dance sport but when I saw, after eight years of daily training, that I most probably won’t be in first place, I gave it up and switched to tango. At that time, the Czech tango scene was in the Stone Age and there was no choice of tango teachers – the only ones were Marek and Katka. The two became my first teachers and today I still work closely with Marek.
At one point I combined dance with aikido, which lasted for a couple of years. Although the two activities may seem far away from each other, they have a lot in common, especially the working with the partner – with or without their consent. The most important thing I learnt from aikido and use in my dancing though, is the awareness of my centre of balance. In a dance - indispensable...
Some sources say that what I enjoy best is milonga con traspié but I would rather point out why I started enjoying it: because I’ve finally learnt how to dance it :-)Thanks for that to Gustavo Chidíchimo and Virginia Martorani who were most patient with me. What concerns “common” tango, I’ve been looking for a role model for several years, so if you’ve got a tip, tell me.
